The way you helped us slip through time frames, the roundedness of your characters, the humour and poignancy of it without any attempt to tell us that's how we should feel, your sharp and insightful turn of phrase ... Much better than many, many short stories I have read. Keep writing and get these published!alexahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03789464804911391774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789689551731499139.post-40333825529855051462018-08-04T08:06:04.244+01:002018-08-04T08:06:04.244+01:00As I read this I could hear my mother in law's...As I read this I could hear my mother in law's voice - you've got the conversational tone of people who grew up in that era absolutely spot on. Not to mention the ebb and flow of memories of names. Also that attitude of being ashamed and cutting someone out of your life completely, it's hard to imagine nowadays but you have nailed it! Well done!debs14https://www.blogger.com/profile/14521565769251816528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789689551731499139.post-59588190483713402992018-07-31T17:22:42.755+01:002018-07-31T17:22:42.755+01:00I am feeling far, far less wordily good than you j...I am feeling far, far less wordily good than you just now (possibly mostly in the face of this bit of splendidness), so am just going to say <3 <3 <3. And also agree with Ruth above about the perfection of 'a crack of cartilage'. Mine definitely doesn't do that all the time as if I was someone's Grandma, which is absolutely not why it sang out so beautifully and painted such a sharp word-picture. It's all just lovely, though - a perfect vignette which manages to create strong, identifiable characters in such a short space of time. xxxAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12639595709757439570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789689551731499139.post-84463368981820098832018-07-31T15:42:46.042+01:002018-07-31T15:42:46.042+01:00I loved this! It's a difficult subject to weave into a short story, but I think you've done an excellent job.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18032490985687716495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789689551731499139.post-47941542493654617562018-07-31T09:49:59.165+01:002018-07-31T09:49:59.165+01:00Really enjoyed that Julie.
