He who does not know how to populate his solitude,
will not know how to be alone in the bustling crowd.
Charles Baudelaire 'Les Foules'
Photo details: It was a beautiful late afternoon and I spotted an elderly man with walking sticks looking out across the sand. I wasn't confident enough to stand there and brazenly take his photo. So I held the camera down at arm's length, pressed the button and hoped for the best. Whitby harbour. 14.09.08
My artist uncle has a fiendish trick..when he goes out to photograph subjects for his paintings, he takes my aunt and gets her to pose for a photo just on the very edge of the frame of what he's actually interested in. Everyone thinks he's snapping her and he isn't really!

Love that photo - the man's legs and walking sticks say a lot even without seeing the rest of him. I'm enjoying your quotes, too - this one's really thought provoking.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip Sian!
ReplyDeleteLittle Dark Eyes - I'm so happy you like the photo. I use an Olympus E300 SLR - not that I've really made any attempt to learn how to use it properly. :)
