Temenos from the Greek verb "to cut": a piece of land cut off and assigned as an official domain, especially to kings and chiefs, or a piece of land marked off from common uses and dedicated to a god, a sanctuary, holy grove or holy precinct. [Source]
It's a work-in-progress but it's still impressively imposing.
Personally, I'm really excited about the whole Tees Valley Giants project and can't wait to see them completed. You might want to start taking bets on when a fully completed Temenos, in all its glory, makes its debut on a layout!
So, should you find yourself visiting me, you now know what I'll be dragging you to see.
What's the one thing you'd want to show off if I dropped by your home town?
J :)
Hi julie I too saw this at the week end and "large golf net?" popped into my head. So I'm waiting for it to be finished before passing judgement, however must point out I lack culture appreciation and desparately need guidence hence why I follow your blog.
ReplyDelete:D I don't believe that for a moment! However ... I was just saying yesterday how I quite fancy learning to play drums ... perhaps I should exchange cultural lessons for drumming ones! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never had much of a fondness for sculpture - it's something I can't fully appreciate unless I can touch it and museum staff don't really like that!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to come by and visit me anytime and since I know you also have a fondness (or is it your fella?) for cathedrals, well....we have two! x
Ooh - you're showing off now with your 2 cathedral town! At least I know where I could leave him if I did visit! x
