Purple Phase: Introduction

Hello again.

So, why purple? Well, a few reasons.
  • Recently, while stood staring at my clothes trying to decide what to wear [note: this isn't at all an unusual sight in our house] I realised just how many of my dresses had purple in them somewhere.
  • Prior to that, if you'd asked me if I wear a lot of purple I'd have said no.
Then ...
  • I had a Twitter conversation about 'what colour do you find yourself returning to?' where I mentioned purple.
  • The response to this revealed that lots of people struggle to use it, even going so far as to say it's the hardest colour to work with.
 Which got me thinking a few 'how to make purple work' tips might be useful to someone ...
So now I'm back, and this time ... it's purple:
Between now and the end of Autumn I'll be scattering purple posts throughout my regular blogging schedule. There'll be posts featuring:
  • Scrapbooking + cardmaking with purple;
  • Wearing purple;
  • Accessorising with purple;
  • Living with purple;
  • And anything else which catches my eye!
And yes, this inevitably means there'll be lots of photos of me and my aubergine-shaded items but whatever I use it will only be to illustrate:
  • general effective colour combinations featuring purple;
  • how to make purple 'work' in crafting;
  • ways to introduce purple to an existing wardrobe [without looking like you've won 1st prize in a Barney look-a-like competition.]
Basically, what I'm trying to say is, it won't be all about me!

So, if you like purple - this will be a series might just be for you. But if you currently HATE purple ...
  • then this series is DEFINITELY for you!
I'm honestly no great purple fanatic. I think we think of purple a bit like we sometimes do about pink. We imagine that if someone happily admits to a preference for it, that it automatically tmeans they reaaaaallllly like it and that their rooms are decked top to toe in it!

It's not going to be like that here. I promise. I hope to show that you can introduce purple into a purple-free life in some subtle and useful ways.

OK, you get the picture. I'll best go and prepare something plummy for you. But before I go ... ever since deciding I'd start this series I've had a certain song going around and around and around in my head ... and I don't see why you should miss out on that ... did someone mention wearing purple?

Enjoy ...

Non-purple blogging shall resume later. Until then ... all together now ... start wearing purple, wearing purple ... na na na na naaaaaa ...

  2. This is going to be great! I love purple but often hold myself back from using it as people always say "using purple means that ... (you fill this one in hehehehe)". Maybe I should just embrace it :-) Can't wait to see more.

  5. Following Effie's comment, I clearly need to start learning this, in preparation for when I am old (not so long now!). Looking forward to this - I was told it was one of my 'colours' but never taken the purple plunge. :)

  6. I did a purple LO recently using the poem 'Warning', which starts 'when I grow old I shall wear purple, with a red hat...'
    My scrap room is purple and DD's bedroom is purple (although she wants to paint it blue). But like you I never really see myself as a big purple person.
    Have you ever thought how there are more words to describe the various shades of purple than any other colour?

  7. Bwahahahaha! My new favourite song!

    I adore purple (http://whoopidooings.blogspot.com/2011/09/rocking-my-world-friday.html scroll down to bottom of the post for my faaaaaabulous new boots! Just noticed in the piccy above my top has purple stripes too. MMmmm. Purple. And stripes. Does it get any more perfect?)

    I can honestly say my whole house is not purple though. (Rented - magnolia everywhere here!) I do use it a lot in crafting. I am really, really looking forward to this series :D

  9. Much better than Purple Rain! Tho I can be partial to it in certain school disco situations.

    Most traumatic experience of TTO's life? Being greeted by a giant Barney outside IKEA when he was two. I'd forgotten about that lol
